Briton - Month 9

Briton you turned 9 months old on August 2!!! It seems like this last month you have turned into my little “BOY” rather than my little “BABY.” Your personality is starting to show more and more. You get quite frustrated when you cannot do something or have something that you want. You kind of growl/whine when you don’t get your way, and at times your face can even turn a bit red. But….you also love to laugh, and that smile of yours could brighten up anyone’s day. Sometimes I’ll catch you looking at yourself in the mirror or playing with your toys – and all the sudden you just start to giggle. AHH…..I just love it!

You are continuing to be a little busy body. Your favorite two places are the bathroom and the kitchen. In the bathroom, unfortunately, the toilet water is what you love and in the kitchen, it’s the tupperware drawer and cupboards. Another fun thing you like to do is knock down your blocks. Your dad and I cannot stack them fast enough – we turn around and there you are, itching to knock them over. You also seem to be getting braver when it comes to standing. You have been walking along the furniture for quite a while, but now you are just starting to take your hands off of things for a few seconds. But - once you realize you are not holding onto anything, you fall to the floor. Walking is something I am not going to push – I already have my hands full with your speed crawling!

This past month was also the first time I have ever left you over night. Your daddy and I flew to Colorado for a weekend to celebrate a friend’s wedding, so we left you with your Nana and Papa. It was a little hard to leave you behind, but you had a great time while we were away! You also took your first trip to the ZOO this month - you were very intrigued and confused by all the animals.

We have had a wonderful summer together, but you turning 9 months means our summer is officially over! Back to daycare and our daily routine!

Briton - Months 7 & 8

Mr. Briton you sure have become a silly and wild little dude! You have changed so much recently that I can't even believe you were that little 7 pound baby we met in November! The last two months have been spent following you around, trying to keep our eyes on your every move, starting to baby-proof, and saying, "No, Briton don't do that." It started out okay with you just rolling around everywhere, but the last month you have been crawling and climbing/pulling yourself up on everything. I know you are just exploring, trying to figure everything out, but it is a lot of work for me and your daddy. I have come to dislike changing your diaper or clothes - not because of what is in the diaper, but because you will not sit still. It takes longer for me to constantly keep flipping you over to your back then it does to actually change your diaper. :)

You have been sleeping through the night for quite a while now and my favorite part of the day is when you wake up in the morning or from a nap and I turn on the light - there you are standing in your crib with that adorable smile of yours. You got your two bottom teeth!!! They are so cute, but a couple of times you have forgotten they were there and you bit your finger pretty hard. You love to eat, especially fruit, I usually have to hide vegetables in your fruit - gotta get those veggies!

Briton you are so curious about everything. You stare so intently at things and get distracted by everything. You love to clap your hands and hit your hands on everything: the wood floor, the wall, your foot, my leg and my personal favorite - your belly.

You have also been a busy guy the last two months. You have traveled to lots of different places to see family and attend weddings. You celebrated both Mother's Day and Father's Day (You got us both some pretty nice gifts). You went for your first swim!!! And you have gotten to stay home and spend the summer with me! Briton - I love watching you and seeing what new things you come up with - can't wait for next months discoveries!

One Month Old!!!

Alex and I can hardly believe we have had our little man for one month now! People always say that having kids changes your life, but you really don't grasp that until you actually have one of your own.....and man oh man has Briton really rocked our world, but in the best way possible!!!

The past month has been spent introducing Briton to a lot of new family and friends, getting advice from other parents, taking short naps whenever we can, learning new things about Briton, parenting and ourselves, and spending a lot of time at home with just the three of us!

Here is a recap of Briton's first month in the Ehly family:

1. Alex's mom stayed with us the first night we were home & then my mom came to stay with us the first week Briton was home to help me out. It was a huge blessing and I don't think I could have done it without them.

2. We have gotten to take Briton on a few walks this month because the weather has been so nice! This was also great for me because I needed to get out of the house on occasion.

3. I have learned that when you have a 2 week old,  it is very possible to only get one load of laundry done the entire day, and that my house will never again stay as clean as it did before Briton was born.

4. Briton has gotten to experience five Husker games this past month, 4 good ones and one very ugly one!

5. We have learned that Briton only likes to go #2 in a clean diaper, right after we change him. Seriously, this never fails!!!

6. Briton got to celebrate his first Thanksgiving! We celebrated with the Pfister family on Thanksgiving day and then celebrated with the Ehly family the following weekend.

The whole Pfister Family!!!

7. Briton loves to sleep on his Daddy's chest, and probably would sleep there all night long if we let him.

8. He got a little cold last week and is finally starting to get over it. I think it was harder on me then it was on him!

9. I have also learned that just when you think you have a routine in place for eating and sleeping, something changes, like a growth spurt, and then you have to figure it all out again.

10. Briton has met pretty much all of his extended family, and he loves his cousins!!!

Ehly Family Cousins - Byron, Cameron and Michael
Pfister Family Cousins - Bennett, Anne and Madelyn

11. Finally, we have learned how truly blessed we are to have family, friends, and neighbors that will go out of their way to make us a meal, get us a gift or just come meet our little guy. Briton has gotten to meet so many wonderful people!

God has given us such a wonderful little gift! We can't wait to see what the future holds for all of us!

Until next time, goodbye from Briton!!!
